A successful ERP consultant needs much more than product knowledge. The strongest consultants develop skills across four major areas: Business Process Knowledge – Understand how organizations actually operate: finance, procurement, sales, inventory, supply chain, HR, etc. ERP Product Knowledge – Learn the relevant Dynamics 365 modules and their configuration capabilities. Technical Awareness – Understand Dataverse, integrations, APIs, Power Platform, security, reporting, data migration, and customization. Consulting & Communication Skills – Translate business requirements into scalable solutions and communicate effectively with users, developers, and stakeholders. One common mistake is becoming too product-focused. An ERP consultant shouldn't simply explain "where to click." They should be able to explain why a particular business process should be designed in a particular way. The best consultants combine domain knowledge + Microsoft technology + problem-solving + communication.
