Azure administrators need a strong networking foundation to manage secure and reliable cloud environments effectively. This discussion focuses on essential concepts such as VNets, subnets, NSGs, routing, private endpoints, DNS, VPN connectivity, and Azure Load Balancing. Understanding how these components work together helps learners move beyond memorizing Azure services and start thinking like cloud professionals. The topic is also highly relevant for interview preparation and for professionals building practical Azure administration and architecture skills.

An entry-level Azure administrator should first understand Virtual Networks, subnets, IP addressing, Network Security Groups, routing, DNS, private connectivity and basic hybrid networking. Azure Virtual Network is the fundamental building block for private networking in Azure, while subnets provide logical segmentation and are the scope at which NSGs and route tables can be associated. A useful starting architecture is: Azure Virtual Network | +-------------+-------------+ | | Web Subnet App Subnet | | Web/API Tier Application | | +-------------+-------------+ | Data Subnet | Database The administrator should understand how an NSG controls network traffic, how route tables influence traffic paths, and how DNS allows applications and services to locate resources. As environments become more security-sensitive, administrators should also understand Private Endpoints and Private Link, which can provide private connectivity to supported Azure services without exposing the service through a public endpoint. The next level is understanding how these components work together: Client | v DNS | v Network Path | +---- NSG | +---- Route Table | +---- Firewall / NVA | v Azure Resource For students: start with VNet → subnet → IP → NSG → routing → DNS. For working administrators: progress into private endpoints, hub-and-spoke architecture, VNet peering, Azure Firewall, VPN Gateway, ExpressRoute, network monitoring and troubleshooting connectivity using effective routes and security rules.
